Hi, I'm Jen!
I'm a double-certified tax & bookkeeping pro who specializes in helping Canadians 🇨🇦 conquer their finance overwhelm.
I'm also a creative professional myself, with over 20 years of stage & screen experience + 4 top-rated books in Canada. I know *exactly* how challenging the finance side of being an artist can be!
With this in mind, I've designed my own proprietary tax system; an artist-friendly hybrid of education + tax filing services so that you feel confident handling the money side of your career.

Bookkeeping Services
We're happy to help "clean up" your books and get ready for tax filing, using the software of your choice (QuickBooks, Wave, Sage, Xero, etc) at our hourly rate starting at $75. Use the "Need Help" button at the bottom of this page to inquire further.

Add a family member to your return and you'll each save 5% on your base return rate!

Register & Pay Deposit
We have limited space each year for tax clients so we charge a $100 deposit to "reserve" our services. This deposit is applied in full to your final invoice from us, which also helps spread out the cost of our services for our clients.

Log Into Your Client Portal
Each of our clients has access to a custom-built online portal for secure file sharing, fast communication & resources to help maximize your tax savings. Once registered, you'll receive an automatic invite to set up your online account and get started!

Step-by-Step Guide
Use our step-by-step guide to get that shoebox of receipts in order and ready for tax time! Once registered, you'll receive instant access to all our handy checklists + optional workshop training on specific topics like claiming expenses as a creative professional & how to be better organized with your finances.

Book your 1-on-1 Session
Once you complete your tax profile in our online system, you'll receive an invite to book your 1-on-1 session with your tax preparer using our private conferencing system. We'll answer any questions you may have, review potential tax return issues, and walk you through the final steps to file the return.

Why are your prices "starting at"?
Our base rates reflect the most common services required for tax filing and apply to the majority of our clients. That being said, we know there can be complex issues that take more time & attention, like:
Foreign Investments & Income
Missing/incomplete information
Complex business structures (multi-partner, foreign affiliates, etc)
As we go through your tax profile, we'll flag any potential issues and guide you through them in the most cost-effective way possible.
Can I drop off my receipts to you?
We operate as a 100% remote firm, so do not offer "shoebox"/drop-off services at this time.
What if I have multiple years to file?
First off: CONGRATS on taking steps to get those done! We know it can feel overwhelming, and we're happy to support you through this and gladly offer a discount on any historical returns you need. Send us a note once you're registered, and we'll get you started!
Who prepares my taxes?
Your taxes are professionally prepared by The Corporate Canuck Management Services Inc, the parent company which owns "The Smart Artist".
Our CEO, Jen, will be your main point of contact throughout your whole tax filing experience. Depending on your needs, we like to match you with a tax preparer who has experience specific to your industry/requirements. So whether it's e-commerce or film gigs, you'll have an experienced pro on your side!
